UNESCO World Heritage Sites in China


The World Heritage List was established under the terms of the Convention Concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage adopted in November 1972 at the 17th General Conference of UNESCO.

China began making submissions to the World Heritage List in 1987. As of July 2007, among 851 World Heritage Sites listed by UNESCO in 137 states, China had 35, ranking third in the world. These sites comprise the most essential part of China's valuable and rich tourism resources:
