According to Chinese custom, when a guest says goodbye, to show good etiquette the host will usually ask him or her to stay longer. If a guest visits for a special reason, he or she usually shows gratitude for the host's generous hospitality and apologizes for taking an early leave.

麦克: 不早了,我们该走了。 
Mike:  It's getting late. I'm afraid we must be off now. 

lì li: bù zhī nĭ men duì fàn cài shì fǒu măn yì.

lì li: shí jiān hái zăo, zài zuò yī hŭi er ba? hē yī bēi chá.
丽丽: 时间还早,再坐一会儿吧? 喝一杯茶。 
Lili:  It's still early. Why not stay a little longer? Have a cup of tea.

mài kè: bù le, zhēn gāi huí qù le, xiè xie nĭ men de shèng qíng kuăn dài.
麦克: 不了,真该回去了,谢谢你们的盛情款待。 
Mike:  No, we really must go back. Thank you for your generous hospitality.

lì li:  huān yíng nĭ men yǒu shí jiān zài lái.
丽丽: 欢迎你们有时间再来。 
Lili:  You are welcome to come again when you have time.
