Smoking Control Volunteers crack down on errant smokers

New smoking regulations come into effect in Shanghai today, and authorities are taking steps to ensure the new rules are enforced.

Over 20,000 student volunteers will be on patrol in the city to remind smokers of which areas smoking is restricted to. Authorities will also have the power to impose on the spot fines for smokers caught flaunting the new city-wide rules.

The new rules will see smoking banned for bars, restaurants and all enclosed public spaces throughout Shanghai.
