Dear Tom,
Already more than a month has passed since we returned from our trip in China. With some distance, I would like to give you some feedback on our experiences with the Spring Travel Services and the related agencies and activities we enjoyed.
Visits
The combination of visits including scienic spots and natural beauty was excellent. Huashan was very impressive, although my parents did not feel comfortable walking too much around on the mountain. All the same, it was a very nice experience. The Whitehorse Temple Luoyang and the Middle Mountain Temple in Shaolin were very impressive - very acient and with a lot less
tourists than other sights we visited. The evening arrival in Xi'an was a bit hectic with so many visits and the dinner show. The Shaanxi Museum (last morning of our stay in Xi'an) could have been cancelled - it was not really interesting. We would rather have preferred to spend more time on the city wall or the forest of stele. The visit to the farmers village was perfect, very nice and very interesting. On the second tour, we were a bit unlucky with the weather (fog on Huangshan, we did not see anything), and therefore would not have needed to stay in the mountain. My parents did not like the fact to stay in a hotel where every item was carried up by men who must damage their health in their jobs (in a European context, we have mercy with these workers and would prefer them to take their health more seriously). We liked the old street in Tunxi a lot and also enjoyed the visit to the village. In Hangzhou we discovered very new a Canal Museum about the Beijing-Hangzhou grand canal. Entrance was free of charge and the museum really very well done (all content only in Chinese, but however a very nice place). I would strongly recommend that museum.
Transfers
Flights, Train transfers and bus shuttles were all very comfortable and convenient. The bus from Huangshan City to Hangzhou was just perfect and very quick (2.5 hours or so). Also the train transfers from Luoyang to Xi'an and Suzhou to Huangshan were very nice.
Tour Guides
First of all, we were very happy with the services of our tour guides. They were knowledgable, flexible and very proficient in their language. For the visit to Shaolin Monastery we were surprised that there was an additional guide from the Monastery who accompanies us during our visit. He as well was very attentive and informative. Our guide in Luoyang even organized lunch on the train for us, which was not officially part of the programme -very nice. And in Huangshan, we took some friends with us on the tour and she agreed to guide the whole group, which was really nice. Also the restaurant in that little village was very enjoyable.
Hotels
In general, the hotels were OK. On Huangshan, we would have preferred to stay in Tunxi instead of on the mountain (well, because we did not see much). And the heating in the hotel did not work properly and the air was very smelly. The Marco Polo Hotel in Hangzhou was perfect, we liked that a lot, its price-quality-ratio was excellent. Also the hotel in Wuzhen was very nice.
Spring Travel
Your consulting and insights were very valuable and allowed us to travel at ease. Your preparation and documentation was exemplary and we feel to have experienced some of the best visits in all of China. Your choice of hotels, tour guides, and sights to visit was to the best of our wishes. We enjoyed every minute of our tour.
So, in brief, thank you, dear Tom, and I hope I will have again the opportunity to arrange some travel with you.
Have a very nice day and best wishes from Switzerland, Sebastian
